At approximately 09:11am, the Cape Elizabeth Fire/Rescue Department was dispatched to 60 Woodland Road for the report of a fire within a multi-family residential structure. Initial detection, as well as further updates were provided by two Cape Elizabeth Firefighters who happen to reside within the complex. They reported smoke showing from the structure and after a short investigation were able to determine the fire was in a basement apartment. Firefighters were able to conduct a prompt offensive on the affected area and successfully extinguished the fire, preventing additional damage to the structure.
The structure was not occupied at the time of the incident and the cause of the fire is currently under investigation. There were also no reported injuries to emergency service personnel or the public as a result of this incident.
Additional resources were subsequently requested from our neighboring communities of South Portland, Portland, and Scarborough who assisted us both at the scene and by providing coverage during this incident.
Crews cleared the scene at 10:51am.
