At approximately 16:35 hours on May 28th, the Cape Elizabeth Fire/Rescue Department was dispatched to 273 Spurwink Road for the report of a fire within a single family residential structure. Upon arrival, the Fire Officer of Engine 62 reported black smoke showing from the 2nd story of the structure, directed his crew to deploy a hand line, and established command. Chief Gleeson arrived on scene shortly after and requested the all-hands, declaring a working incident.
The location of the fire was quickly determined to be within a 2nd floor bedroom and was subsequently extinguished.
The all-hands resulted in additional crews being requested from South Portland, Portland, and Scarborough Fire Departments to assist at the scene and to cover our town during this incident.
The structure was occupied at the time of the incident and sole occupant was able to evacuate the structure successfully. The cause of the fire is considered undetermined. There were no reported injuries to emergency service personnel or the public as a result of this incident.
Crews cleared the scene at around 7pm.
